Identifying and Responding to Domestic and Family Violence

This tutorial provides health practitioners with the knowledge and skills to respectfully engage and effectively identify and respond to patients experiencing domestic and family violence.

On completion of this course, graduates will be able to:

  • Discuss the nature, severity, and impact of domestic violence
  • Inquire about domestic violence, with sensitivity, to a diverse range of patients and assess level of risk
  • Provide a first line response that addresses the needs of patients, including brief safety planning and options for support and referrals
  • Describe methods and resources for changing the environment you work in and for getting support for yourself
